History of the Linslade Western Bypass
The bypass has been around since 1982 The Linslade Western Bypass has been on the drawing board since 1982 and has been opposed by South Beds Friends of the Earth (FoE) all this time. It was originally part of a huge East West trunk route between the Haven ports such as Felixstowe in the East, and Oxford and the M40 in the west. However, this route would have crossed the land of Ascott Estate near Wing, which belongs to the Rothschild family. In 1994 the Wing bypass part of the route was turned down at Public Inquiry, and the idea of a trunk route was dropped. It then just became local bypasses in order to link Aylesbury and Milton Keynes. However the route has remained the same!
